Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day designated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.Seventy-eight years ago, on January 27, 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazis’ largest death camp, was liberated! Because of this, on this day, the world recognizes this date as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. As we pay our respect to the 6 million Jews who perished during the Holocaust, may we also acknowledge and honor the victims of the Holocaust still among us! As time passes, more of them are passing away, leaving the few remaining to be even more precious than before. According to a report released this week by the Holocaust Survivors' Rights Authority, 15,123 Holocaust survivors died in Israel in 2022 - that's almost 10% of the survivors who were alive in 2021. There are an estimated 150,600 living in the Holy Land today. Over 21% of these survivors are over 90 years old, while 60% of the survivor's population are women averaging 86 years old. Each day we have with the survivors is a gift. We must care for the survivors of the Holocaust in their final years and share their stories with the world so we will Never Forget! Hearing their memories of the war and Holocaust breaks our hearts every time we listen to a new account; yet, despite going through such hardships and trauma, the survivors are the most joyful people you will meet.With anti-Semitism and hate crimes rising worldwide, we need their laughter and zeal for life more than ever! How majestic is the name of the Lord?! The other day, I was meditating on Psalm 8 when I recalled the last time I was truly in awe of the Lord and His creation. Three years ago, on a trip to South Africa, I stood at the bow of a boat looking out at the crystal waters where whales, sharks, seals, and penguins were swimming beneath the surface. In a moment of utter wonderment, I heard the Lord proudly declare, “I made this. This is Mine. What you are witnessing is only a portion of My wonder!” WOW!Our God deserves all our praise and glory, yet we often get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget to appreciate the blessings and love surrounding us. We don’t need to travel to the other side of the world to experience the Lord’s majesty; open your eyes, and you’ll see the Lord’s hand in everything around you!When was the last time you felt a sense of awe? 2022 - The year of setting my face like flint! Wow, what a year it has been! From starting 2022 with a positive Covid test to ending with the completion of my debut novel, the last twelve months have been an epic adventure!Every December, I ask the Lord to give me a word for the upcoming year, and 2022’s was FOCUS! Isn’t it ironic that the very thing we should be doing is often the most difficult to achieve? Nevertheless, through many distractions, difficulties, and delays, I held tight to the theme of this year and watched God’s timing work it all out.In fact, that was one of the biggest lessons I learned in 2022 — there’s no point freaking out or stressing about timing when God’s already gone ahead and got it in His hands.There’s no telling what a year will bring, so as I look back on the key moments of 2022, I smile at the way God is orchestrating my life for His purposes rather than my own.
