Authentically, Izzy – Skymar: Book One

“Dear Izzy — I feel certain there’s a book-loving man living relatively nearby waiting to speak bookish to you ‘til death do you part. You just haven’t met yet.” ~ Pepper D. Basham

Izzy Edgewood is a wannabe bookstore owner, quote queen, and Lord of the Rings nerd who has been waiting for Prince Charming to sweep her off her sneakered feet. But it’s hard to meet people when you spend more time with fictional humans than real ones. Which is why her pragmatist cousin Josephine decides to take Izzy’s future into her own meddling hands and create an online dating profile for the hopeful romantic.

To Izzy’s shock (and suspicion), Josie’s plan works. Soon, she’s dialoguing with a Hobbit-loving man named Brodie, who lives in a small town an ocean away from her home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But is their shared love of books, family, and correspondence enough to overcome Izzy’s fear of flying and the literal distance between them? And is this long-distance relationship even worth considering when a local author has been frequenting the library where she works and is proving to be a perfectly fine gentleman?

A bundle of joy, wit, and literature, Authentically, Izzy is a delight to read/listen to! Primarily written in emails and texts, the narrative flowed smoothly, though it caused some surprise when the writing style changed in the second half. Full of laugh-out-loud and swoon-worthy moments, I thoroughly enjoyed embarking on this adventure with Izzy Edgewood as she searched for love and self-worth.

“‘It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.’ You have more courage than you think. Maybe it’s time to use it in the real world.” ~ Pepper D. Basham

My only qualm and reason I gave this book four and a half stars instead of five is that, like a lot of “Christian Fiction” categorized novels, there was only a hint of faith, and when the time came to bring glory to God, the author chose to put it all down to matters of the heart! (Darn it!) Nevertheless, Authentically, Izzy is a light-hearted, fun novel that will resonate with anyone who is in the same boat as Izzy (I’m pointing to myself here).

“Who would’ve thought that after struggling through what I was meant to do for years and years, that my dream found me instead of me finding my dream?” ~ Pepper D. Basham

Are you looking for a cute rom-com to fill your lonely nights? Authentically, Izzy might be the book for you.

P.S. Is it so wrong to keep my nose stuck in a book when they’re filled with such wonder? Maybe it’s time to put the books down and acknowledge the world around me. If Izzy can find such a great match, perhaps I can too!

Thanks so much for this review. If you like more overt Christian themes throughout your fiction, my historical novels, my Mitchell’s Crossroads series, and my Pleasant Gap series have more overt Christian themes.
