Historical fiction and fantasy collide in another exciting journey through time. The Timeless series expands with new additions to the family tree in the third installment, For a Lifetime. All of us are called to a specific time, but when you are born between two eras, it’s hard to know where to stay—especially when that choice could mean being separated from your twin sister.
Synopsis
Two sisters. Two timelines. An unthinkable tragedy that alters the course of their lives.
Grace and Hope are identical twin sisters born with the ability to time-cross together between 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, and 1912 New York City. As their twenty-fifth birthday approaches, they will have to choose one life to keep and one to leave behind forever–no matter the cost.
In 1692, they live and work in their father’s tavern, where they must watch helplessly as the witch trials unfold in their village, threatening everyone. With the help of a handsome childhood friend, they search for the truth behind their mother’s mysterious death, risking everything to expose a secret that could save their lives–or be their undoing.
In 1912, Hope dreams of becoming one of the first female pilots in America, and Grace works as an investigative journalist, uncovering corruption and injustice. After their parents’ orphanage is threatened by an adversary, they enter a contest to complete a perilous cross-country flight under the guidance of a daring French aviator.
The sisters have already decided which timeline they will choose, but an unthinkable tragedy complicates the future they planned for themselves. As their birthday looms, how will they determine the lives–and loves–that are best for both of them?
I love Gabrielle Meyer’s writing because it’s always so elegant and poignant. She has a remarkable ability to bring history to life, uncovering untold stories of bravery, defiance, and devastation. Her research is extensive, and her storytelling is truly captivating.
I was absorbed into For a Lifetime from the opening hook and couldn’t put it down. Every chapter made me eager for the next as I journeyed with Hope and Grace from the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 to aviation feats in 1912. But as their twenty-first birthday approached, their decision became even harder. Our families are often our first love, and that love is nearly impossible to replace— so when we must choose one path over another, it is only by God’s strength that the right decision is made. We see this beautifully laid out as Hope and Grace cling to each other, yet ultimately seek the Lord individually to discern His will for their lives.
“Praying isn’t about getting what you want – He already knows – it’s about asking God what He wants… Praying and seeking God means trusting that He will do what is best and taking comfort in His plan.” ~ Gabrielle Meyers
The faith woven throughout this book is inspiring, and the love stories are sweet, passionate, and genuine. While many new fantasy novels contain obscene content, this series remains a safe, encouraging space that consistently reminds readers that God is in control. Hope and Grace’s story portrays the enduring power of family, the importance of seeking God’s will, and the courage required to follow where He calls.
For a Lifetime is an excellent addition to the Timeless series. It’s thrilling, educational, inspiring, and comforting. I can’t wait to start book four and see what happens next. Even though the timelines are becoming complex, I love how this series continues to explore new eras and historical events, making each book a fresh adventure while maintaining the heart and faith that make this series so special. The Easter eggs and overlapping timelines are also a lot of fun to uncover. I truly hope this series continues “for a lifetime,” hehe.
