Becoming Free Indeed captivated me with its sincerity. Rather than using this book to gossip about her family’s scandals, Jinger Duggar Vuolo spends the majority of the time encouraging readers to rely on the Lord rather than human understanding and to stand in love. I appreciated how she approached her opinions of the IBLP and Bill Gothard while also being respectful of those who had traumatic experiences within the movement.

While I disagreed with a few points, I really liked Jinger’s emphasis on unity among believers and living by God’s Word rather than fear, judgment, and religion. I was at church the other week, and something the pastor said fits perfectly with the theme of this book: “Truth as a religion can kill you, and grace without truth can kill you, but when truth and grace stand side by side each other, they bring life.”
I pray Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s testimony in Becoming Free Indeed will be the start of others’ disentangling journeys and bring hope to those who have been wounded by abusive church leaders and false doctrines.
